Using HelpALife
About the service, donating, and requesting support.
What does HelpALife do?
HelpALife helps coordinate between people seeking blood-donor support and voluntary donors. Requesters share the details from the treating hospital; donors review requests and decide whether they can respond.
Is HelpALife a blood bank?
No. HelpALife does not collect, test, store, or supply blood. Donation happens at the hospital or donation centre, which manages the process.
Is HelpALife free to use?
Yes. HelpALife is free for donors and people seeking donor support. Participation is voluntary, and blood must never be bought, sold, or rewarded.
What should I do about urgent medical care?
Contact the treating hospital directly. HelpALife is not an emergency service, and medical care continues through the hospital while coordination is underway.
How do I register as a donor?
Read the donor information page to understand participation, then continue to the registration form. It asks for your blood group, area, contact details, availability, donation history, and consent.
Become a donor →Does registering confirm medical eligibility?
No. Registration and a matching blood-group label do not establish eligibility or compatibility. The hospital or donation centre assesses that before donation.
Do I have to accept every request?
No. You review each request and decide whether you are available. You can also change your availability in your donor account.
Will my phone number be public?
No. Public listings do not show personal phone numbers or exact personal locations. Public donor discovery is area-based.
Read the privacy policy →When can protected coordination contact be accessed?
Requester contact is shown only to a signed-in donor who has explicitly accepted that request. A donor’s own contact is shared only with the consent they give.
What should I prepare before making a request?
The hospital or donation-centre name and area, the blood requirement and timing from the treating hospital, a coordination contact, and a short public description with only necessary information.
Read the request guide →How can I manage or close an existing request?
Sign in through Manage my requests using the contact you used when posting. You can review responses, edit supported details, mark the request fulfilled, or close it.
Manage my requests →Does posting guarantee a donor?
No. Availability and responses vary, and medical eligibility is decided by the hospital. Keep coordinating with the treating hospital.
Taking part as a donor
More detail for people considering registration.
Does registering mean I have to donate immediately?
No. You can review requests and decide whether you are available. Registration does not commit you to every request.
Do I need previous donation experience?
You can explore joining without having donated before. The hospital or donation centre assesses eligibility and explains its process.
What information will registration ask for?
The form asks for details such as your blood group, area, contact information, availability, donation history, and consent. Follow the verification options the form provides.
How will I find requests?
Review the request information available through HelpALife. Notification options depend on the services enabled for your account.
Can I choose not to respond?
Yes. Responding is voluntary. Review the information and decide whether you are available to help.
When are contact details shared?
Protected requester contact requires authentication and explicit acceptance. Sharing your own contact information follows the consent you give during the response process.
Does registration confirm I am medically eligible to donate?
No. The hospital or donation centre assesses medical eligibility before donation.
Can I update my availability or preferences?
Yes. Your donor dashboard lets you change your availability, and your settings let you update alert preferences, travel distance, and donation details.
What happens after I respond?
Follow the platform’s coordination steps and the hospital or donation centre’s instructions. A response is an offer to coordinate, not confirmation of a completed donation.
